That's what happened at the People's Bank & Trust in Troy, Mo., earlier this week, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported.
After the robber fled the bank with a bag full of money, bank President David Thompson, a card-carrying member of the National Rifle Association, followed him into the parking lot and pointed a Colt .380 pistol at him, the Post-Dispatch reported.
"Sir, get out of the truck," Thompson recalled saying. "You're not going anywhere."
It's hard to imagine this happening in the Washington area, where it's pretty unusual for business executives to carry holsters on their hips. But there are at least a few man's man type of bankers in town who might have it in them to face down a robber in true high-noon style.
Who would make your list of most likely local bankers to foil a robbery? Leave your picks in the comment section below or email them to me at bswitzky@bizjournals.com. Don't worry, I'll keep your name anonymous.
